Social media planning for consistency

We all know how hard it is to stay consistent on social media when you have 1000 other things on your to-do list. In this blog post, I break down exactly what I do in order to stay consistent on social media without feeling overwhelmed and stressed.

We're looking at time management, Social media planners and scheduling...

I have been using social media for work for over 5 years now and started out my freelance career as a digital marketer so I have a whole host of tips, tricks and ideas to keep you consistent on social media.

Tip #1 - TO SCHEDULE OR NOT TO SCHEDULE

Figure out what works best for you. I personally stay more consistent when I take a few hours each month to batch-create content and get it scheduled up on programmes like later but others find it easier to post on the day, in the moment. Try these two ways out and see what works best for you and stick to it!

Tip #2 - TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE

If you're serious about staying consistent on social media then make sure you are actually making time for it. I found it helped when I treated my social media like it was client work. Giving myself a deadline for it and scheduling a few hours a month to batch create like I would with client design work. If you're an on-the-day kind of person, make sure you have a specific time of the day that you do your social media work. This could be the first thing you do when you sit down to work, just before you go to lunch or the last thing you do before clocking off that day, whatever it is for you just make sure you make it a time you can stick to.

If you're a time blocker like me (can't recommend this enough if you get distracted easily or find you aren't as productive as you'd like to be) then include 'create and schedule social content' as a time block when you are planning out your day!

Tip #3 - IF YOU FAIL TO PLAN YOU PLAN TO FAIL

I am a really visual person so in order to keep track of the visual and analytical sides of my social media I created this document. From layout planning to number tracking, ads, budgets and remembering every holiday. This is my bible when it comes to business social media. It is a fully editable document which you can download for free here.

Tip #4 - KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO POST

One thing that is bound to throw you off when you're trying to be consistent on social media is not knowing what to post! Obviously, your main goal is to post something with value whether that be interesting, educational or entertaining.

We put together a list of post ideas for you to refer back to on the days you get stuck. The ideas are transferable across all industries so there are lots of ideas in there for everyone, Download your own list of social media content ideas for free!

Tip #5 - DON'T OVERDO IT

Finally, don't allow it to take over your life. If you're feeling like you need a break from social media then take it and come back when you're feeling more refreshed. It is hard work and when you're running a small business it can be painfully time-consuming so please don't feel like it is the end of the world if you miss a few days or months or even a few years. It isn't for everyone (myself included sometimes). If it isn't working for you then think about why you feel you need it and what other avenues there are for you to achieve what you want to from social media.
